Our aim has always been to facilitate more people getting involved with the sport we love and we are particularly keen to provide opportunities for those that are interested in angling but don’t know where to start.
With support from Sport England we are about to launch one of our most exciting projects yet aimed at getting more women and girls into angling. This will see us delivering a range of activities, courses and fishing days. We will also create a new group of female angling coaches that will help us with this mission.
Phase 1: We will celebrate the launch of this project with an open day at Dilston on the R Tyne near Corbridge on Saturday 16th May 2020. The event will be free of charge and open to members and non-members. The day will include workshops, demonstrations and one to one tuition aimed in particular, but not exclusively, at females who are interested in fly-fishing and would like to find out more about the club and what we offer. Angling is a very sociable sport and something we actively encourage and promote, we want the event to be a fun family day out with a barbecue and refreshments available and we hope many of our existing members will bring a friend along to this event.
For further details, register your interest or to book a place at this free event please email firstname.lastname@example.org
Phase 2: Following the open day we will be inviting any ladies who wish to pursue their interest in angling to join our 4 week coaching course specifically for females and led by our qualified and licensed instructors, supported by our newly qualified lady coaches. The cost of the course is £25 per person and we will provide all equipment for those who are new to the sport along with a variety of resources to support learning. We encourage total newcomers as well as experienced lady anglers to get involved in our project.
Phase 3: Following the conclusion of the coaching course we will host a guided day salmon fishing at Dilston on the R Tyne on Saturday 25th July for all ladies who took part in the coaching programme. This will be an opportunity for to put newly acquired skills into practice and hopefully catch their first salmon or sea trout. Again all equipment will be provided and anglers will be supported by our dedicated team of volunteer coaches and instructors.
THIS GIRL CAN is a national campaign designed to encourage more women and girls to get active. The campaign is funded by Sport England and the National Lottery.
This Girl Can celebrates active women who are doing their thing no matter how they do it, how they look or even how sweaty they get. Since 2015, nearly three million women have become more active because of the campaign. Women come in all shapes and sizes with all abilities and from all backgrounds. Some of us are expert sportswomen, some of us are a bit rubbish. It doesn’t matter. We’re just happy that you’re getting active. And if you’re still not sure that you can, we’re here to help you to figure out the way of getting active that’s right for you.
Research shows that many women are put off taking part in physical activity due to a fear of judgement – this might be about the way the look when they exercise, that they’re not good enough to join in or they should be spending more time on their families, studies or other priorities. This Girl Can seeks to tell the real stories of women who get active or play sport in the way that’s right for them using images that show what activity really looks like in all its sweaty, red-faced, jiggly glory. We never judge and we don’t care what other people think.
